Why human love shortcuts ...(cant believe Im back to writing hahah) I ran across this little light bulb when I met a man named John at my gym, An American looking dude, solid build with a scruffy beard and always with his orange Texas NFL cap. I cant exactly remember what he said that triggered me to dwell on this but its definitely accredited. (I better write this down before my thoughts vanish into thin air). Anyways The reason why human love shortcuts is because of our love of "magic". Now now before I get into the meat and bone of this statement, I shall enlighten you with some context.. ahhh I remember now..Its coming back to me now, I remember the words that were exchanged between us at the gym now..
We were talking about this asian lady at the gym. She was there every morning doing her peculiar workout that mainly consist of stretching and flexibility. Now John ran into her a couple of days ago and asked her 'how do you have so much energy in the morning, I need to drink coffee to be awake like you' to which she replied 'ohh I dont drink any coffee, I just come in and workout' and there their conversation drifted apart as did their workout. I told John that I dont take coffee or prework out before the gym, I dont even drink protein shake. To which he was amused due to my young age (he was 48 turning 49 this week) and my size. I told him that most young people drink protein shake due to the social implication and the strong marketing of the product. Not only that, but once they start seeing process, they credit the muscle growth to the protein shake rather than their own hard work.
This was the light bulb that sparked my epiphany. The reason why people buy into these shortcuts and other diet fads and "how to build 30 pounds of muscles in 3 weeks" programs could be primarily due to the marketing team and the social pressure and of course human are inherently lazy, and also we crave for immediate gratification. This is okay but however, why is the hard work given credit to the product rather than to the individual, why not steal the heavenly glory and claim the results for ourselves. So many times, I heard people talk about what product they consume or what little tricks and secret of the trade that they do to get the progress rather the general overarching hard work is because .. (remember this is only my theory). It is because of the beauty to the receiver, the beauty within little effort was invested. We don't want people to know how hard we worked for the results. We as a human race, glorify the person who works the less to yield the same result instead of the man who hustled his arse, who broke his back to finally get the same results.
